Volunteer on the Helpline

Become a Helpline Volunteer

This is a remote volunteering opportunity where everything is done over the phone from wherever you happen to be in the UK.

Those who call us can be struggling across a range of anxiety disorders: OCD; Panic Disorder; Phobias or General Anxiety Disorder. Many feel hopeless, despairing and let down by our mainstream mental health services.

We are the national charity at the frontline of accessible help for anxiety sufferers 365 days a year. And if you want to help those in need then you’ve come to the right place.

We are seeking Advanced No Panic Helpline volunters. The difference between advanced and regular helpline volunteers, is advanced helpline volunteers are expected to also train new applicants. This means they need to have previous experience of delivering training to workers or volunteers.

You must be able to do one three hour shift per week at a time that suits you, commit to volunteering on the No Panic Helpline for at least a year, and commit to training new applicants for 8 weeks at a time at least 3 times a year.

We train all our No Panic Helpline volunteers to provide sufferers with all the information they need to begin the process of self-help recovery. And our volunteers can then go on to be trained to become mentors helping those with the most difficult of conditions. If you would like to know more about our training then please email volunteering@nopanic.org.uk or call 01952 680460.

After just one year, we will provide you with certification setting out the training you have been given and the service you have provided to No Panic.

Being an advanced No Panic Helpline volunteer and working with those at their most vulnerable is a very special privilege.

Not everyone can do this. You will need:

  • An interest in anxiety disorders,
  • To be able to provide empathetic listening,
  • To be able to pass on information of relevant No Panic’s services,
  • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively,
  • Be able to confidently train volunteers,
  • Be able to track the development of trainees,
  • Be able to assess the suitability of trainees for volunteering on the No Panic Helpline.

Initial training will last for 8 weeks and you will continue to receive support via a bi-monthly support group. Training is provided and delivered over Zoom. All support and volunteering is done over the phone.

Our Volunteer Recruitment Team will contact you to discuss the questionnaire and answer any queries you may have.

Due to our time investment and expense of training volunteers we do ask for a small fee of £25.
