Become a Helpline Volunteer
This is a remote volunteering opportunity where you answer calls over the phone from wherever you happen to be.
Those who call us can be struggling across a range of anxiety disorders: OCD; Panic Disorder; Phobias or General Anxiety Disorder. Many feel hopeless, despairing and let down by our mainstream mental health services.
We are the national charity at the frontline of accessible help for anxiety sufferers 365 days a year. And if you want to help those in need then you’ve come to the right place.
Who can help? Well, you may have a disability yourself that makes leaving home difficult. This then is a volunteering opportunity made for you. Everything is done from your own home including training and there is never a need to attend elsewhere.
You may already be working in the field of mental health and you want to provide support to people who have anxiety. If that is the case then working with No Panic could be of benefit to you.
Or perhaps you have suffered from anxiety yourself and want to give something back.
All we ask is that you are able to do one three hour shift per week.
We train all our volunteers to provide sufferers with all the information they need to begin the process of self-help recovery. The training also enables volunteers to volunteer in our Extra Listening and Anxiety Support Chat services. And Helpline volunteers can go on to be trained to become mentors helping those with the most difficult of conditions.
If you would like to know more about our training then please email volunteering@nopanic.org.uk or call 01952 680460.
After just one year, we will provide you with certification setting out the training you have been given and the service you have provided to No Panic.
Being a help-liner with No Panic and working with those at their most vulnerable is a very special privilege. Not everyone can do this.
You will need:
• An interest in anxiety disorders
• To be able to provide empathetic listening
• To be able to pass on information of relevant No Panic’s services
• And be able to communicate clearly and effectively;
Volunteers who can bring other skills to the charity – such as training and supervision – are desirable.
After you have applied, one of our volunteers will contact you to arrange your interview.
Initial training will last for 8 weeks. When you start volunteering on the No Panic Helpline, you will be supported by a more experienced volunteer. You will continue to receive support via a Helpline Support group. Helpline Support Groups are monthly for new volunteers, then bi-monthly.
Due to our time investment and expense of training volunteers we do ask for a small fee of £25.
