Anxiety is normal in stressful situations, and can even be helpful. For example, most people will be anxious when threatened by a dangerous animal or the car will not start and they are late for work. The burst of adrenaline and nerve impulses which we have in response to stressful situations can help us to 'fight or flight'.

Anxiety is 'abnormal' if it:

    * affects or disturbs everyday life.
    * continues when a stressful situation has gone.
    * appears for no apparent reason when there is no stressful situation.

Anyone would be anxious packing up their home and regular way of life and moving to a foreign country. After all statistics show that moving house is the 3rd most stressful time in ones life after death and divorce! Moving abroad only adds to that! One is not just coping with the upheaval of packing and unpacking but also a different language to deal with, a new culture to understand and new rules and regulations to learn!

Leaving the humdrum of a dreary English town and a demanding job is most peoples dream. Moving to a beautiful old cottage in the French countryside with no stress, longer summers and a laid back way of life sounds idyllic, but what happens when anxiety strikes?

What happens if that anxiety does spiral out of control? How do you communicate? How do you get help? Even if you can speak the language, or have lived abroad for a while, describing those feelings of panic or sheer terror precisely is not easy without using your native tongue!

Whether your anxiety has started since your move to France or if it is something that has troubled you for many years. Maybe you are not even sure it IS anxiety you are suffering from! Help is at hand. Do not suffer alone any longer.
